Plum II 梅 méi

This time I painted the plum with cobalt and ennobled it with overglaze gold.

In Chinese literature, the plum tree is compared to a freshly flowered but as yet untouched girl.

It is a symbol of winter and innocence. Each part: trunk, flowers, peduncle, ovary, calyx, stamens, leaves have their symbolism.

 

Technique: underglaze cobalt painting, additionally decorated with gold.
